I just really want to GO ok. I’m tired of work. I’m tired of life. I just want to be in disney world and not have to worry about anything.
Soooo what’d I do last week. First up, I finished off my Death Star Plans bag for my dapper day Leia look.
The center gold piece is 3d painted in gold filament and then I carefully painted in the black parts. Not perfect but it’s fine for this. I still haven’t actually attached this – I’ve got several things sitting on my table waiting to be glued and this is one of them. But that’s all that is left to do.
To make the black parts, I put the purse in my scanner, scanned it, made sure it was sized to real life, then overlaid an image of the death star plans on it and copied the lines on a new layer. Sent that layer to Chase and he cut it out on the silhouette for me in some of the leftover black glitter HTV from Wanda. I felt like the black glitter made it a little fancier LOL. And you know you can never go wrong with adding sparkle or glitter for a Carrie-related costume.
Anyway I ironed it on – it kinda ironed out some of the fake leather “texture” but oh well LOL
I also shortened the strap that came with the bag – it was meant to be crossbody so it was really long, but I didn’t want to put anything like that over my shawl. I wanted it to be more like a hand-held/wrist purse. So Chase managed to get the metal closure off one end for me, and I just cut it off shorter, put the clasp back on it and Chase put the metal closure back on. Easy enough and I didn’t have to buy anything new š
All that’s left now is to finish my shoes and order the stuff for my hair. It’s in my amazon cart, just waiting on payday to hit buy.
Anyway so I am really happy with how the purse came out. Especially since it was fairly low-stress and easy.
I did also get some sewing on Padme done — nothing really worth showing. I got a strength layer for the bodice cut out, and all 3 layers sewn together. I got the strength layer pinned to the lining layer – I had hoped to get those 2 sewn together and boning installed yesterday but didn’t get to it.
I started getting stuff pulled out for packing. I’ve been wanting to pack for weeks now but made myself wait. But I went ahead and did a bunch of laundry so I could make sure everything I want to take is washed and ready. I cleaned out my sock bin and matched up socks so I could find the ones I wanted to take. Also since I’ll be wearing heels I went to find some toe-kinis…
WTF! I found 6 right foot toe-kinis and only ONE left foot. What the heck?! I mean I can get away with one pair but where in the heck did all the others go? I went looking through my repair kit and basic costume storage areas and all I found was… another right foot toe-kini. Weiiiird.
Saturday was MidtownCon at Black Lodge! I’ve really been looking forward to this! Originally I was going to wear Diane (cuz, y’know, it’s at Black Lodge), but like I said last week, the forecast was a little chilly so I decided to wear Wanda instead.
I had to reglue one part of the chest piece and fix my tiara snap (it snaps to the wig at the center front).
Here’s the one random pic I got, in front of the fabulous mid-century parking garage at Crosstown. I had wanted to get some pics in this area since it used to have a cool fountain and stuff but it was all gone and wasn’t very pretty so we skipped it.
Was glad I wore Wanda at the start because I was cold. Then inside I got hot LOL. But I was glad I wore Wanda all together because it was so much more recognizable and I had a lot of fun.
Didn’t buy anything; in “trip mode” so trying not to spend extra money. (I’ve had a bag hanging in the kitchen for ages and I decided to clean it out a couple of weeks ago and put it away, and it turned out to be the bag I had at Dragoncon – still had my badge in it, and money! $45! So that was the money I used to buy my shirt at Last Podcast and also for Midtown Con LOL)
When we got home I tried to recreate a photo from 2014… in 2014 I’d worn Wonder Woman to event and came home and took a photo holding up kitten Luna…
2022 Luna was not interested in being picked up so this was the best we managed.
Sunday was a busy day. We had an early Easter lunch with the fam, took mom home, then went home, took a 30 minute nap, then drove downtown to watch dad’s band play on Beale.
Then we went to dinner and after that long a day I was exhausted and my plans for sewing the Padme bodice pieces together was out the window.
I did decide to straighten up my sewing room – put Wanda away, put my filming stuff away (recorded some tiktoks saturday while I was in costume) and then figured out my plan for which ears I wanted to take on our trip.
Here’s the “normal” shirts I’m taking (plus the 2 knit outfits) with the eras I’ll wear with them. I’m not going to have time to wear everything, but I’ll have choices.
After I’d taken this pic I called Chase down to my sewing room to see it. Luna had been hanging out in my sewing room the whole time, just chilling while I cleaned up and laid out disney stuff. We cuddled a bit and played with a tape measure, the usual stuff. After Chase came in I was going to close up shop and go downstairs. Chased picked Luna up, the way he does every day, and I scratched her chin as I walked by to go turn off the lights. Chase went to set Luna down and she hissed at him. He doesn’t know what set her off; if he touched her belly where she had surgery last year? But since we were both leaving the room we decided to use the “walk away” tactic (anytime she gets hissy, we either walk away out of her space/into another room and leave her alone, or if we’re not in a situation where we can leave the room, we just sit down so as not to be intimidating and ignore her). I turned the lights off and went down the hall to go downstairs and looked back and she was trotting after me. At first I thought, good – she’s following me like normal thinking she’s going to get a snack (I sometimes give her a scoop of extra food before bed).
Nope, that is not what she was doing. As I went down the stairs, she stopped at the railing and screamed at me, hissing at me through the railing. I was like WTF and kept moving down the stairs, and she kept coming after me, screaming, trying to claw at me, hissing. She cornered me in the dining room and Chase had to come down with a lighting pole and distract her with it so I could get away from her.
Like what the actual fuck. I have no idea. I’m not even the one who started her hissing. I have no idea why she got aggressive with ME like that. Normally when she gets hissy it’s “leave me alone/get away from me” and not coming after somebody. The only other time she did that was right before we discovered her bladder issues last year, when I picked her up and she freaked on me (because it hurt when I picked her up, we had no idea) and she came after me this time after I set her down. Chase and I both just went and sat in the living room while she walked around with her tail puffed up, hissing at us. She finally calmed down enough to go sit in Chase’s lap like normal.
I just really hope she’s not going through some painful medical emergency again right here before the trip. She’s not doing any of the other stuff she was doing around the bladder stones incident though (the peeing outside of the liter box namely) so I dunno. Liter box usage is normal, eating/drinking is normal, she’s not hiding. She was back to mostly normal this morning. Chase went ahead and put her anxiety meds in her food this morning. Hopefully she eats it and gets some in her system.
It’s just like, not the stress I needed right now combined with the fact work has been super stressful. And of course it makes me worried about going away for a week. She’s going to have sitters but still.
Anyway this week I gotta finish up the last little bits of dapper day leia and then focus on packing padme some more. Not going to dig in super deep before the trip but I’d like to get that internal bodice ready to go for everything else as soon as we’re back.
